Inspiration…how do you define it? Inspiration according to Merriam-Webster.com means “something that makes someone want to do something; a force or influence that inspires someone; a good idea”.
Sometimes when I read a definition of a word, it tends to complicate the intent or meaning in my head. For me, I hope to offer encouragement, ideas, possibilities and maybe a new way of approaching areas of our lives. Ever since I was a teenager and spent hours in my bedroom, I would collect inspirational quotes, sayings, etc. I remember the first inspirational poster I had on my wall. It read “If you love something set it free. If it comes back to you, it was yours. If it doesn’t, it never was.” I can somewhat remember the photo…it was a girl setting a bird free. I remember looking at that poster and reading that quote over and over. I don’t really know what possessed me to buy that poster, as it took me a while to truly grasp the meaning of that quote. My point…I have always been drawn to inspiration.
Yes, I hope to inspire people in big ways! However, inspiration can be a simple gesture, so don’t overlook the possibility. Here are a few examples that I like to think fall into the inspiring category. I bring these up because I have experienced them both. First, do you ever have a conversation with someone or even just stand by them in a store and you think to yourself…”she looks so pretty today” or “I love her outfit”. Second, have you ever felt you should send someone a note just because and then don’t? Why don’t we pay the compliment out loud or end up writing the note? I don’t know for sure…I can only answer for myself. I believe my thought process in the past has been that I don’t want them to think I am weird by commenting on their looks or outfit OR I might think that someone wouldn’t be affected by me if I sent the note. How ridiculous are these thoughts?!! Are these really inspiring acts? I think so because they may inspire that person to in turn give someone else a compliment or send the note.
So…..I want to challenge you to live your life with a “WEAR THE PERFUME!” attitude towards INSPIRATION. Life is short! Live life lavishly! Give the compliment, write the note, and whatever else you feel led to do. (Led or lead…I don’t know but you know what I mean. HA HA!)
Thank you for stopping by!
WEAR THE PERFUME!
