Have you ever had the time of your life?
I mean really had the time of your life!
I heard that phrase on a movie once. The mom told the daughter she wanted her to have the time of her life. The daughter told her “I have never had the time of my life”. The mom’s response “What are you waiting for?”! Now that will get you in the “feels”! Once I saw that scene (which was from “Something’s Gotta Give”), I never forgot it.
I used to tell my girls to “have the time of their lives” as they left to go to a ball game (usually) or some other activity. I wanted so badly for them to enjoy the journey and cherish each moment. Although I told them this wonderful phrase many times, I remember one time in particular. As my two youngest were heading out to go play in the state championship game for softball for their high school team, I remember vividly telling them to “HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIVES”. I knew this moment would never happen again for my oldest daughter as she was a senior. My younger daughter might have gotten the chance again, but I knew she needed to cherish every moment while it was happening. The week leading up to the state championship game was magical.
They were truly having the time of their lives…they were interviewed, articles were in the newspaper, received flowers from supporters, read encouraging posts from people who loved them, team dinners were attended to celebrate, a coach who believed in them gave them a great week, etc. When they left home that Saturday afternoon, I knew they would HAVE THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES if they chose to pay attention to everything. I bet if I asked them right now, they could remember the sights, sounds, the feel of the brick dust from the field, the emotion, the smell of the grass, the lights over the field and much more. They definitely had the time of their lives! I didn’t hurt that they did end up as State Champions!!
Having the time of your life can come in many packages. For example, I was hiking in a state park with my hubby and dog this past fall. It was nothing extravagant or exceptional with regard to the park where we hiked. However, I remember that day vividly because I was enjoyed the experience so much. I remember the sun shining, the sound of the water flowing down the stream through which we hiked, being out of breath, and our little dog being so happy. So…on that day I was having the time of my life. I have hiked in California and climbed high at the Grand Canyon. I was having the time of my life on those days as well. The beauty of life…we can continue to have the time of our lives over and over again! We have to choose our attitude and really soaking in the experience. Someone else could have the time of their lives by taking a day just for themselves (mothers with young kids sure would appreciate that one). It looks different for everyone.
So I ask you…have you had the time of your lives? What are you waiting for? If you have before, what are you waiting for to have the time of your life again?
Thank you for stopping by!
