Did you have confidence when you were young? We all had confidence in something when we were young. We were good at a sport, a good musician, a natural leader, a good artist or we had a wonderful imagination creating ideas for our future. Now I know that we all didn’t have confidence in some areas…maybe our looks, maybe our “social” standing at school, or any other teenage insecurities. I am talking about that confidence that you could create the life of which you dreamed. We all dreamed of a life we wanted whether we really think so or not. Take time…really think back…some of us have to think back way further than others. Truth hurts! HA!
Now…look at your life right now. Do you still have that same confidence? Did setbacks in life knock you on your behind? At times, do you feel like you are trying to climb an ice-covered mountain where you just slide back down after a few steps forward?
All this sounds so negative I know. However, let’s address the reality, so we can then change the reality. We can draw on that confidence we had as a younger version of ourselves. We can. Think back when you felt your strongest, most positive…you just knew your future would look like you imagined. You still have those skills within you. Draw them out.
I used to dream of being a high powered business woman. I graduated from one of the best business schools in the country. I moved to Chicago to work in a Fortune 500 (probably more like 100) company right after graduation. I was on my way! I soon learned I was not made for big corporate life. Was my dream a mistake? Oh no! I learned so much about myself. I learned I love small business. I love the freedom, the challenge and the creativity required to grow a small business. Was my confidence shaken? Yes it was…I am not going to lie. Then I got a job at a small business (maybe 250 employees) and I was given a lot of responsibility and many new opportunities. I learned, I grew and I experienced many days where my confidence was knocked to the ground by the owners because I was challenged. However, I picked myself up and kept going. I am so appreciative of the challenges I faced in that small business and the opportunity to grow my confidence (which sometimes requires us to be knocked down).
Life events sometimes knock down our confidence as well. I am speaking from experience. We have a choice…wallow in the confusion, sadness and pity we feel for ourselves (I have done that too!). OR we can look back on what gives us confidence or gave us confidence. Draw on that! The world needs your special gifts. The world needs your contribution. The world needs your CONFIDENCE.
We may ask at times…CONFIDENCE…WHERE DID YOU GO? It is ok to ask the question. We just need to make sure we seek it out, find it again and grow even stronger!
THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY!
