I feel a little guilty writing on this topic today. I know millions in the U.S. are really suffering due to the massive winter storm, frigid temperatures and also tornadoes in some places. I am not ignoring or discounting what everyone is going through. That being said, I planned on this topic for today and I think it can’t come at a better time.
Days like today where it is a struggle to go about ordinary business, or in some cases even a struggle to survive, we dream of being able to do something…anything. We would love to feel the warmth of the sun; we would enjoy a walk outside; we would be thrilled to go visit family and even be thankful to be at work. Let me ask you (and myself) a question…on those days where you are able to do those things, do you really pay attention and live those experiences to the fullest? I know for myself that I definitely do not all of the time.
We need to LIVE LIFE LAVISHLY while we can. What does that even mean? Lavishly is defined in the Webster Dictionary as “expended or produced in abundance”. Let’s say I am taking a walk. Do I REALLY look at the beautiful nature around me? Do I appreciate the warmth of the sun?
Do I look at the beautiful flowers (obviously not this time of year but you know what I mean)? Do I really pay attention to the birds singing? Let’s say you are visiting with friends. Do you really look at them and think about how thankful you are for them? Do you think about what a privilege it is to be healthy enough to visit?
How about doing something you have always wanted to do but it didn’t “fit” what is considered “normal” for people your age or someone in your family? I want to start LIVING my LIFE LAVISHLY. I don’t want to have regrets. Some things I want to do will take money…but some will not. I will definitely work to live those moments lavishly on a daily basis that are free to me. They are free to everyone…we just have to choose them!
Am I being blind to life’s struggles by discussing this idea? Of course not…it is because of life’s struggles that I thought of this phrase and wanted to share. I have watched my mom fight cancer this year and I know of someone younger than me who was given a solemn cancer diagnosis just last month. We have to get busy living NOW! The following quote I am going to share is one of my absolute favorites. I have saved it for years.
“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ‘woo hoo’ what a ride!” Author unknown
So after a quote like that what else is there to do but go LIVE LIFE LAVISHLY!
THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY!
